Hormones are medically necessary for many trans, nonbinary, Two-Spirit and gender diverse people. Yet the process of accessing this care requires navigating a gatekeeping system that can be challenging and restrictive. As health care professionals, we can be critical of existing systems while working within them to expand access to care, advocate for change, and help our gender diverse clients get the care they need.
In this workshop, you will learn an anti-oppression focused approach to offering low barrier, trauma informed care planning sessions for gender affirming hormone therapy, and how to write a recommendation to help gender diverse adults access this care. You’ll explore a flexible protocol based on an informed consent model that centers client safety and respect, and will have the opportunity to practice your skills through role plays and case studies.
You will learn the pathways to accessing hormone therapy in BC, and be given templates, forms and sample reports to use to create your own recommendations that will meet WPATH version 8 standards of care. You’ll leave feeling prepared to offer this care to gender diverse adults.
This workshop is designed for health care professionals, including registered clinical counsellors, social workers, psychologists, and primary care providers. It will be delivered in a small group setting via Zoom video conferencing, through a combination of lecture and interactive work using break-out rooms.
You should have basic competency in working with trans, nonbinary and Two-Spirit clients before registering for this workshop.
This workshop will be delivered online through Zoom, in two 3-hour blocks.
